Much of his early history is as it is in the canon, the AU diverges before the birth of Jin Ling.

Nie Zonghui, right hand man to Sect Leader Nie, suffered an attack that triggered a swift moving qi sickness. With how quickly it was ravaging Nie Zong Hu, Nie Huaisang, recalling hearing that Wei Wuxian had gone into hiding in the Burial Mounds, makes the journey to plead Wei Wuxian to help save the man's life without letting Sect Leader Nie knowing about it. Wei Wuxian agrees to go and brings Wen Qing with him as her skills as a doctor are unparalleled. With Wen Ning left behind to look after the remnants, the two accompany Nie Huaisang into Qinghe.

After Nie Huaisang pleads for his brother to let her try as Sect Leader Lan was in a night hunt and would not make it in time, Wen Qing, being a skilled doctor, was able to cure the qi sickness in Nie Zonghui, using a combination of accupressure and accupuncture.

Sect Leader Nie offered a reward as he did not want to be in their debt. Wei Wuxian joked that he would like potatoes. Wen Qing replied that it was the duty of a doctor to help and heal others before she dragged Wei Wuxian back toward the direction of the Burial Mounds. Nie Huaisang talked his brother into perhaps visiting the Burial Mounds themselves so that they could provide a need that Wen Qing or Wei Wuxian are too proud to ask for. Or to see if he truly wished for potatoes.

When Sect Leader Nie arrived at the Burial Mounds, he realized that the remnants consisted of old people and one child barely surviving and realized why Wei Wuxian had asked for potatoes. Without another word, he made his way to the Lanlin Jin Sect Leader and called for the other sect leaders to join him to discuss this poor state of affairs.

With the poor conditions and the true state of the Wen remnants brought to light, Sect Leader Lan and Sect Leader Jiang lobby behind him to allow them to return to Dafan Mountain, where this branch of the Wen were originally from. Perhaps with an envoy living with them in order to provide a watchful eye. If the Wen choose to practice cultivation once more, this envoy would be able to report to the sects immediately and swift action could be taken. Sect Leader Lan volunteered his brother to act as envoy to the Wen.

As three of the great sects agreed, Sect Leader Jin had no choice but to agree.

The Wen Remnants, including Wen Yuan and Wei Wuxian, are moved from the Burial Mounds to Dafan Mountain. There, they thrive and become known for their healing practices. Wen Qing was made the de facto lead of this sect by Sect Leader Nie's condition.

When Wen Yuan was old enough, Wen Qing began the boy's training to be a cultivator. He grew under the love and care of Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, excelling in learning the Wen style of fighting alongside learning principles of cultivation from both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji as well. He trained in the arts and showed a great talent in cultivation and swordplay.

The Lanling Jin never fully trusted the Wen, no matter who had led them. Jin Guangshan continued to spread propaganda that they were amazzing armies, trying to reclaim the previous glory. Not all of the Jin seemed to believe this as Jin Zixuan had journeyed to Dafan Mountain at his wife, Jiang Yanli's, request and seen the living conditions of the Wen. As much as he tries to teach his son, Jin Rulan still is heavily influenced by his grandfather.

Until Jin Guangshan's passing.

Jin Zixuan had been notified of his father being lured away and surrounded by his father's favorite women and rushed with enough cultivators to take on Xue Yang. But it was too late. When it had been revealed that Jin Guangyao had been behind the murder, he was brought swiftly to justice then executed for his crimes.

Sixteen years had passed and Wen Yuan grew into a talented cultivator and was given the courtesy name Sizhui by his adopted guardian, Lan Wangji.

He trained in the arts and showed a great talent in cultivation and swordplay.

Sixteen years had passed and Wen Yuan grew into a talented cultivator and was given the courtesy name Sizhui by his adopted guardian, Lan Wangji.

Personality:
As a child, Sizhui is happy and carefree, despite his clan being cast out in the cultivation world. As the only child around, he tends to cling onto any adult that was nearby. He bonded with Wei Wuxian during their time in the Burial Mounds, even wanting to accompany Xian-gege down to Yiling to buy groceries. However, he wanders and clings to the leg of the nearest person that feels safe, calling them Daddy. Fortunately, the leg he had chosen was one of Wei Wuxian's old acquaintances Lan Wangji. While the stern look scared the child at first, Sizhui, then known as a-Yuan, warms up once Lan Wangji buys him toys and treats him to a filling meal.

When the Wen were given a second chance at life, he, along with the rest of the Wen remnants resettle in Dafan Mountain. Growing up with the Dafan Mountain Wen Sect, a-Yuan had always been been taught to recognize and be grateful of the second opportunity his family had been given and to make the most of it by being respectful and kind to everyone, regardless of one's station in life.

Under the tutelage of Lan Wangji and Wen Qing, Sizhui learned to be well-mannered and organized; though not bound by the rules of the Lan, the exposure of it from Lan Wangji taught him manners and courtesy while learning the principles of medicine from Wen Qing taught him organization and to investigate every possible variable before drawing his conclusions. He is usually one that jump in and help when an extra hand is needed.

Sizhui has a playfulness that lends to his kind nature and makes him personable to others, quickly introducing himself to other children when he first met them. He quickly became friends with the mischievous Lan Jingyi when he first was brought to visit the Cloud Recesses with his adopted guardian and had become friends with Jin Ling when he first met the boy at Lotus Pier during a visit to the Jiang Sect Leader that coincided with a visit from Jiang Yanli and her son Jin Ling. The three boys quickly formed a friendship with Sizhui often serving as a mediator between the two and a leader whenever direction is needed.

During night hunts, he is the one that plans the strategy of the hunt and provides first aid thanks to his medicinal knowledge that he had learned from Wen Qing. He is very careful to temper himself so that he would not seem threatening as he is well aware of the reputation certain parts of his family had.

Key themes:
Redemption, kindness, family.

Main Motivation:
Family is not only by blood.

Skills:
Golden Core Cultivation
Sizhui has a golden core within him that is the source of his magical abilities that allow him to communicate and calm spirits and minds as well as transfer energy to another person as a means of healing them. He had spent most of his life (16 years) being trained with Wen Qing as well as Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji to control and finesse it in order to utilize it. With all of this training, Sizhui is also more sensitive to ghosts and spirits than the average person, being able to sense them easily.

Sizhui is able to create and use various talismans for things such as calming/dispelling spirits, repelling spirits, warding, and shielding. He does this by drawing talisman in the air with his spiritual energy or drawing the sigil itself on a piece of paper. The spiritual sigil can be pushed toward a target and execute the spell before dissipating. The paper version sticks to the target until the spell is complete.

Cultivator physiology (Swordsmanship / martial arts)
Sizhui is a master of the Wen Sect's style of sword and unarmed martial arts, which includes actual sword play, "riding the sword" (standing on the blade as a means of transportation between one place to another), and using it as a cultivation tool with the spiritual energy of the sword by being able to summon it telepathically and using it as an offensive strike from a distance.

He is also trained in unarmed combat, becoming proficient in it as a means of a last effort of self defense if he is unable to summon his sword or use talismans. He has trained his body hard in the Wen Sect's style of unarmed combat and is able to launch himself a fair distance, such as from the roof to the ground in an easy leap. He is light on his feet with this style and quick to move.

Item:
